HOW TO PREP AN ACCENT FOR A CASTING WHEN YOU’VE ONLY GOT TWO DAYS…

LIVE WEBINAR

TUESDAY 18TH OCTOBER

7PM BST

It's 2pm on a Friday and a casting has just landed in your inbox calling for a self tape in an accent you've never tried before or, even worse, one that you've been stealthily avoiding for years

It's got to be sent in by Monday morning and you can't get a session with a dialect coach for love nor money

Normally you'd just politely decline and save yourself the stress and likely mortification but this one's for a juicy role in an exciting new series.

You can't turn it down. You've got to give it a go

But how?!

There's not enough time for a deep dive and you're not sure where to start, what to focus on, how to use your time wisely.

And to make matters worse, all this accent anxiety is getting in the way of your ability to string a convincing sentence together, never mind give the sort of truthful, connected performance you're normally more than capable of.

For the last 12 years I've been empowering actors to move past the panic and tackle those last minute accented castings in a calm, methodical and connected way...

“I recently got a casting in an accent that I had to turn around in one weekend. It was very text heavy.

The work we'd done together made me feel ready and excited for the challenge. I went into it thinking, 'Right, I'm going to give it a really good go,' even though I'd never even attempted the accent before.

That's something I'd never have dared to do before working with you. I probably would've felt really overwhelmed by how much text there was and not been brave enough to tackle that accent at all. It would've really daunted me!

This time I'd the confidence to approach the audition in a way that made me really enjoy the process. I used the approach that we'd used together and it actually took a lot less time than I anticipated!

By the end I found myself being able into switch into the accent really easily and not sound too stereotypical or generalised. My partner was shocked at how comfortable I was with it very quickly.

I didn't get the role in the end but I did get lovely feedback from the casting director!”
